What should we think about OpenAI’s GPT-4? Are major language models an important step on the road to human intelligence and artificial intelligence (AGI). If we have developed general intelligence, is it so different from human intelligence that Humans has no place to hide?
If you ask this important question to the best minds in the world, you won’t get anything like a deal. Consider the question of the effect of GPT-4 on the rendering of AGI.
While AI experts believe GPT-4 is now a clear indication of AGI, AI expert Rodney Brooks says we are no closer to AGI than we were 30 years ago. There is also controversy over the success-destroying
Nick Bostrom is one of the original doomsayers. Long before GPT-4, it was argued that when AGI went far beyond our capabilities, it would find a way to escape the digital world and make human progress. At the other end of the spectrum are people like Yann LeCun who refuse to see this phenomenon as sci-fi crap.
The scientists in the middle believe that the potential of GPT-4 and the future of productive artificial intelligence will have a huge impact on business, cause injustice in today’s society, and avoid propaganda, misinformation and serious crime.
Worries? Yes very. end of the world? NO.
Many interested AI experts signed an open letter in March calling for a six-month moratorium on “massive AI experiments” by all AI centers.
Although the letter failed to delay anything, it caught the public’s attention and suddenly put artificial intelligence security on the back burner. Then, at the end of May, an overlapping group of experts and leaders signed a brief urging the world to take risks of “AI extinction.”
We have created a score type below. The IEEE Spectrum summarizes 22 AI experts’ views and statements on key language models, AGI possibilities, and the risk of civilization extinction. We searched magazines, press releases, and books to find the experts’ press releases, then used our best judgment to compile them and gave them the yes/no/maybe tasks below.
If you are one of the intellectuals and are sorry that we have treated you unfairly, please let us know. We will fix it.
